Human nutraceuticals

The Grap’Sud group’s range of phenolic compounds comes mainly from French olives and grapes. The group has the advantage of extensive raw material collection areas and so can offer a range of hydro-soluble extracts intended principally for functional foods and beverages, nutri-cosmetics, or the production of food supplements.

The Research and Development team is also exploring many avenues offered by the grape and the olive to bring about a qualitative development of the products and an expansion of the scope of their applications (antioxidant, anti-free radical, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, etc.). The extraction and purification processes in place within the group use water and vinous ethanol as their only solvents. The optimisation of the latter enables high yields to be obtained while preserving the quality of the active principles.

The red grape polyphenols titrated with anthocyanins, the grape seed extracts, rich in procyanidins, and the olive extracts with standardised levels of hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol are supported by scientific studies.

Red grape polyphenols

The grape extracts titrated in polyphenols manufactured by the Grap’Sud group are produced from grape marcs collected from the French Mediterranean vineyard arc - the heart of the French Paradox. These standardised extracts offer a polyphenolic profile that is identical to that of red wine, with guaranteed contents of total polyphenols, procyanidins, anthocyanins and resveratrol.

These polyphenols, which are available in powder form and can be adapted to our customers’ specifications, meet a growing global demand, in particular for the grape which remains the main raw material sought.

Grape seed polyphenols

The grape seed extract titrated with polyphenols manufactured by the Grap’Sud group is produced from white grape seeds collected only in France, in particular in the vineyards of Champagne and Alsace. This standardised extract offers guaranteed content in total polyphenols and oligomeric procyanidins (OPC).

What are oligomeric procyanidins (OPC)?

Oligomeric procyanidins, usually called OPC, are phenolic compounds found in grapes and possessing powerful antioxidant properties. The antioxidants, compounds that are known to neutralise free radicals, have amply demonstrated their beneficial effects on human health.

Their quality is ensured by rigorous selection of the raw material and a unique natural extraction process that enables them to keep the properties of the active principles intact and to be entirely water-soluble.

Available in liquid form or in powder (without a carrier), these polyphenols meet a growing global demand, in particular for the grape - which remains the main raw material sought - and can be adapted to our customers’ specifications.

The Grap’Sud group offers this extract in a range containing variable proportions of oligomeric procyanidins (OPC).

Red grape skin polyphenols (Anthocyanins)

The Grap’Sud group is among the leading world specialists in the production of grape extracts titrated with anthocyanins, the collection area for which extends principally across Provence and Languedoc-Roussillon.

After 2 years of research into and analysis of the HPLC profiles and the ORAC value of the main red grape varieties in this region, the Grap’Sud group chose a combination of the red grapes with the highest anthocyanin content (Syrah, Cabernet, Merlot and Carignan). With the aid of rigorous selection and a specific process, the Grap’Sud group has obtained an extract with concentrated anthocyanins, comparable to the natural profile of grapes.

What are anthocyanins?

Anthocyanins are natural colourings that are the source of the red, pink, blue and violet colours of many flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Today, more than 200 different anthocyanins have been identified and characterised in the plant world. They belong to a group of plant compounds called flavonoids, a sub-group of polyphenols. However, each fruit or plant has its own anthocyanin profile. The grapes from red varieties contain more than 15 monomeric anthocyanins, in varying proportions.

Standardised in anthocyanins and more substantially in polyphenols, this unique extract has a high antioxidant and anti-free radical potential. Available in powder form and naturally water-soluble, it can be standardised according to the wishes of the group’s customers.

Olive extract titrated with phenolic compounds

Standardised in hydroxytyrosol and in tyrosol, this phenolic compound developed by the Grap’Sud group comes from olives from the olive oil mills of the Languedoc, which thus guarantees full traceability from the raw material to the extract. Extracted from olive water, this extract brings the antioxidant benefits of the polyphenols that are characteristic of the Mediterranean diet, without the associated fatty substances or calories.

Olivex® and its Mediterranean roots

For thousands of years, olives and olive oil have been associated with the Mediterranean culture with a whole variety of benefits for health, particularly the prevention of the development of some degenerative diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases and cancer. The health and longevity of the Mediterranean people are largely associated with a diet rich in plant-based foods (fruits, vegetables, and fibres).

Characterised by their high antioxidant power, oleuropein, hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol constitute the main phenolic compounds which are thus extracted from olive water.

Polyphenolic compound of grape seeds and olives

The complex of grape seed extracts and olive water developed by the Grap’Sud group is produced by a patented process. It is a standardised combination of polyphenols, comprising proanthocyanidins, hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol - a powerful source of antioxidants.

An ingredient full of promise for food supplements, aimed at joint health and sports nutrition

Arthritis is a major health preoccupation which affects an increasing proportion of the ageing population, with significant economic impacts on our societies. Even if many therapeutic solutions exist today which contribute to the alleviation of the inflammatory symptoms, such as analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, there are no treatments which stop and/or slow down the progressive damage and the loss of joint cartilage. In this context, nutritional prevention can be an encouraging new approach to joint health.

The OleoGrape Seed complex developed by the Grap’Sud group has thus been the subject of many years of study in the field of joint health (pre-clinical and clinical studies). These studies have made it possible to validate the bioavailability of this complex for humans and to show significant results in the prevention of arthritis, both for the inflammatory process and the prevention of damage to cartilaginous tissue.
